We are crusing along now on our way to Sydney- just under 400 nautical miles to the start of Bass Straight- with two reefs in the main and the JT (jib top) up front!
I'm thrilled to report that we are no longer dealing with calculated flying fish attacks nor (the more horrendous) blue bottle (man-o-war) jellyfish attacks in the helmpits... instead, this trip, we've encountered the Southern Ocean squids. They're very suave creatures- slowly sauntering onto the deck under the cover of darkness- although they do look a bit worse for wear upon discovery in the morning. They're pacifists, for sure, and you can't blame them for wanting to come along for the ride.
All joking aside, it is much colder than last leg, and it has been quite wavy and windy! We have been pleasantly surprised by how delightful not-upwind sailing is (after 12 days of intense upwind action before arriving to Fremantle) and are grateful to be steaming along in the right direction with just over 900 nautical miles to go!
Finally, if you're reading this, PLEASE give the Easter Bunny our most up to date coordinates... we could always use some more chocolate on this boat!
