This education pack contains information and activities to introduce global issues into the classroom and help teachers and students learn about the lives and thoughts of girls living in Afghanistan, who have been deprived of their right to education.
It is designed in three sections. Your students can learn about the United Nations Rights of the Child and Global Goals. They can read letters from Afghan girls and see examples of their astonishing artwork depicting their lives and fight for education and rights. They can also find out about how young people can take action within their school community and beyond to raise awareness of what is happening to Afghan girls and take action to make the world a more hopeful place.
There are also additional letters from Afghan girls that you could share with pupils.
The resources are designed to be flexible and adaptable. They can be used as starting points for discussions, lessons or assemblies, or form part of a larger extended cross- curricular project with a partner school if you have one.
Taking action
We encourage pupils to think about how they can take action. For example, they could read some of the letters from Afghan girls in an assembly, create posters for display in classrooms, or write an item to be included in the school newsletter.
They could choose a hashtag and start a social media campaign or write to their MP. You could post your pupils’ letters and posters on X or Instagram with the #letafghangirlslearn and #wehearyourvoices hashtags so that they will be seen and shared by Afghan women and girls.
