Helsinki and Maiden got stuck in the centre of the High and are struggling to find the breeze to escape. They should be back in decent breeze soon and will be moving into a more tactical part of the race as they head for Southern shore of Tasmania.

The lack of weather information continuing to be problematic. The crew of Maiden will be watching the weather carefully for signs of a change, and a change is coming.

Luckily the navigators have taken it upon themselves to make the best of it and keep everyone as well informed as they can be by sharing information, which, considering the advantage a boat could gain by keeping it to themselves, shows very admirable qualities in the fleet. Maiden and Pen Duick 6 seem to have turned into the “go to” for reliable weather information.

It sounds from the reports that everyone is in good spirts on board Maiden, as well they should - they are sailing her like they stole her! They also seem to be the provider of all the radio entertainment for the fleet.

Maiden has a very good HF radio and Heather is showing considerable skill in its use. They are sharing all their weather information with the rest of the fleet. They are under no obligation to do this but there is great camaraderie between the boats.

Maiden and the other two lead boats are screaming along at the moment on a reach making good gains on the lead boat. There is a developing low out to the West.

No skipper would happy at the restart, with less than a week to prepare the boat and crew for this gruelling cold leg. The idea of setting off badly prepared would be their worst nightmare.
