I had the privilege of joining the crew for a training leg from Cape Town, South Africa, to Santos, Brazil. This journey marked the first time the boat sailed without modern instruments, GPS, or contact with land, as it was training for the OGR. Initially, there were many doubts, and we often wondered how we would determine our location. However, as the days passed, taking sights and finding our position became an integral part of our routine. Heather taught several of the girls how to do the calculations and gather data from the sun. We always worked as a team, with two people trying to find the position and comparing their results to avoid errors. It was with great joy that one day we discovered our margin of error was just 2 miles! This meant we were being very accurate with our calculations, serving as a motivational boost for the crew. Witnessing our progress throughout the journey was truly wonderful. Beyond the technical aspects of sailing, I fondly remember the crew's attitude in the face of challenges. They approached every difficulty with joy and a genuine desire to learn and improve. This trip was not only fun but also a fantastic opportunity to meet incredible individuals, many of whom have become dear friends. It was wonderful to reconnect with several of them when they stopped by my home in Punta del Este, Uruguay. On that occasion, I had the chance to be part of the team again, but this time from the shore. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I look forward to hearing from you soon! And of course, the best in Uruguay was the shore team!!! ;)
