My time on Maiden was really special, I was following Maidens since 2019 and wanted to be part of it since then but due to restrictions of being in armed forces, I could not volunteer earlier. But, finally got this wonderful opportunity to participate in Ocean Globe Race 23 -24. It was very spontaneous decision, as I read the status of Gaurav shinde (one of the Indian sailor based in Canada) on Facebook which said " Maiden looking for Indian female sailors" . I instantly search the website and mailed my CV to Tracy. Within next 15 days I was in Azores sailing from there to UK and getting selected for the OGR. The moment of the race which I will always remember in life is the start line from leg 1-Southampton. It was such an amazing and emotional moment for everyone associated with the Maiden. We were ready for each and every task. Although the team was very new and we hardly spent time with each other before start but everyone was professional and worked really hard to be there completely. I regret that I could not complete it because of my knee injury and left after Leg 1. But, the moments onboard with flying kite at 30kns and pushing it really hard to be first on line were really hard and unforgettable for me. As a team we won and what else could I ask for. Most beautiful memory of the race was when we were greeted by beautiful whales from all the direction and they were racing with Maiden. I was steering Maiden at that time and the kite was up, we were downwind, trying to do best speed but it was so difficult to focus on kite as the whaly was a beautiful distraction. After the race,I did recovery of my injury , then went on to sail on Reeva Project( a boat based in Malaysia ) I did few weeks of sailing from Thailand to Malaysia with them, which was absolutely beautiful. Now, I am looking for more opportunities in sailing world. Planning to do my yacht master certification very soon.
