Maiden Arrives In Fremantle

Maiden has arrived in Fremantle! However it wasn’t the smooth arrival as expected, and The Maiden Factor team are very grateful to all those who have provided support over the last day.

At 1900hrs AWST (1100hrs GMT) Maiden called to say they had a suspected fire in the engine bay causing total power loss. Consequently, they shut down the engine and needed a tow. Skipper Wendy Tuck and crew were all safe and well.

The crew arrived at the Fremantle Sailing Club on 8.30AM Sunday 31st March and after the customs and immigration procedures, were able to step back on dry land after 24 days at sea on their first leg of the world tour from Sri Lanka.

A huge thank you to Andrew Raven and his crew from the Fremantle Sailing Club who went to the aid of Maiden 42 nautical miles north of the Swan River near Perth, WA last night. We also want to say many thanks to Fremantle Sea Rescue, the WA Water Police (Western Australia Police Force) and to Lancelin Rescue for their help and support. Finally, to the yachts from Sea Change, who came out in the dark and stayed alongside Maiden providing support, that was incredibly kind, and the crew are very grateful.

Within hours of arriving Wendy and Belle were at the Fremantle Sailing Club speaking about girls' education - which is why we are all here!
