Introducing the new crew aboard Maiden on Leg 2, Fremantle to Sydney

On the Fremantle to Sydney leg, Maiden has two new crew members: one delivery crew member and one guest. Nicola Trinder is our delivery crew member and we're excited to introduce you to her today! Nicola started sailing 2 years ago as part of the 2017/18 edition of the Clipper Round the World Race after having a desire to learn to sail for most of my adult life. We spoke to her about her reasons for coming aboard Maiden:
"I am acutely aware of my privileged upbringing in a safe environment, with an excellent education that has, no doubt, enabled me to have opportunities such as sailing on Maiden, so I hope to be able to help in providing others with opportunities to achieve whatever their dreams desire! I am honoured to be part of the Maiden Factor Team raising money and awareness to help less fortunate women and girls be able to reach their full potential in life."

Reflecting the broad support for the cause and in the true spirit of equality, Maiden's historically all-women crew is now open to men for the very first time!
Whilst the crew will still be an all female team, men are able to apply to be one of the 'guest' crew on a leg of the world tour, sending a strong message that men and women must stand together and fight for equality for all.
"We believe that now is the time for men and women to join forces and work together to combat inequality in all walks of life," said Tracy Edwards MBE, Founder of the Maiden Factor. "There are so many men and women who want to help us break down barriers that stop girls getting to school and raising funds for girls' education is such a positive message in today's climate."
Simon Jodrell is our first guest crew member onboard Maiden! He is sailing from Fremantle to Sydney. Simon is currently working as an Electrician, currently running a construction and renovations company in Perth Western Australia. He started sailing in 2008, in the lead up to racing the Clipper Round the World yacht race in 2009/10, on board “Spirit of Australia”. Simon then spent a few seasons racing for state championship titles on Space Sailers, and also sailing socially. He has also delivered yachts from WA to Sydney, raced the Rolex Sydney-Hobart yacht race with Sir Robin Knox-Johnson. He then took a short absence from sailing, to work overseas, for the federal government, at one of Australia’s research stations in Antarctica for nearly 2 years.
